Who Am I

My name is Lindsey English. I have been attending sierra college for about two years now. I am currently enrolled in spanish 2 and trying  to pick up the language. I was born in martinez, CA but i grew up and am currently living in Auburn, CA. I have lived here for about thirteen years. I love it here!

I am white. My nationality is mostly Dutch. I do not know a whole lot about my cultural background or my ancestors.

I believe it is important for teachers to provide a safe and caring enviroment for young children. Teachers should also get to know each child and their cultural background and help them feel accepted and safe. Teachers should also bring each cultural into the classroom so children learn about other races and learn to accept them.

I do have a two year old son who is half white and half hispanic. I try my best to introduce both cultures to him as he is equal to both. I think it is important for him to know about his dads side of the family who came from mexico. I have a big family and that is the most important thing in my life. I love having a large family.

I currently work with young children at calvary chapel christian school in auburn. I work in the after school care program with kids from age seven to thirteen. I also work in the preschool two days a week. I have been working here for almost a year. I love working with children and enjoy watching them learn new things each day.

Learning about culture and diversity will always be useful because working at a school, you are always going to have different races in the classroom and its important to make the child feel proud of where they come from and learning about culture and diversity will help any teacher make that happen!
